Carer's Allowance and carer support

Financial and practical support for people caring for a family member or friend.

Carer's Allowance

Carer's Allowance may be available if you care for someone for a substantial number of hours a week and meet the earnings and eligibility rules. It can affect other benefits for both of you, so check the current rules before claiming.

Carer's assessment

Separately from any benefit, ask your council for a carer's assessment. It looks at your own wellbeing, work and breaks.

Local carer organisations

Local carer centres offer free advice, peer groups and help with forms — often the fastest practical help available.

Official sources

Guidance only — it isn't financial or legal advice, and rules and figures change. Always check the official source or speak to an adviser.
